I am a Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab where I work on the Digital Currency Initiative and I am a Research Associate at the Laboratory for Economic Analysis and Design at MIT. I have published two peer reviewed books on the economic foundations of the 2008 global financial crisis.
My primary research focus is on digital currencies where I am engaged in projects in two subdomains. One area is game theoretic analysis of the consensus protocols that underlie cryptocurrencies and the design of new protocols to improve security. The other area is the design of trading mechanisms and privacy and auditing protocols to improve the performance of financial markets.
I also research the design of mechanisms to improve the performance of markets for environmental offsets.
I earned a BSc in Philosophy and Economics with first class honors from the London School of Economics and a PhD in Economics from MIT.
